SKY’S SPORTS FANS FUMING OVER ‘RIP-OFF’

HD rise, even if you don’t want it!

SPORTS fans are fuming after Sky said it will move customers onto a more expensive package whether they want it or not.

Millions face paying an extra £24 a year as all SkySports channels switch to HD.

The cost of the full package will increase by £2 per month from next Monday.

Sky says it aims to offer “the best possible viewing experience”. But angry viewers accused the broadcaster of “ripping them off ”.

They claimed they were imposing a “back door price rise”.

One said: “I’m OK with the Sky Sports I have now so you can forget about ripping me off.

“You’re trying to charge me for something I’ve not asked for and don’t want.” Another said: “Interesting ploy by Sky. Replacing all standard definition sports channels with HD for an extra £2 a month.

“An enforced price rise then. Like they say, details make all difference.

“Only a couple of quid a month but back door price rise nonetheless.”

Another said they were “annoyed” at being charged “£2 extra a month without ever asking me”.

They added: “I don’t even have an HD TV so nothing will change for me. And I feel no need to see every blade of grass anyway.”

The higher cost will affect new and existing customers without HD who are out of contract. Viewers without an HD box can receive one for free.

Existing customers on a contract will carry on paying the current costs until their contract ends, but will receive HD from next month.

A Sky spokesman said: “We want to make sure we are offering customers the best possible viewing experience and so from October 1, we will be offering Sky Sports in HD as standard.”
