Allen in shock at Spireites collapse
MARTIN ALLEN questioned himself after 10-man Chesterfield crashed 3-0 at home to Gateshead.
The Spireites boss said: “There’s got to be questions asked about me.
“I’d be asking questions. That was a shocking, hurtful performance.
“I will get it right but it was as bad a display as I’ve seen from a team of mine in more than 500 games as a manager.”
Scott Boden scored twice against his former club, who had Zavon Hines dismissed just seven minutes after coming on as substitute.
Two-goal Jobi McAnuff lifted Leyton Orient above Harrogate and into top spot but it was the clean sheet in the 3-0 win that pleased boss Justin Edinburgh most. He said: “To get a shut-out against a team top of the league was the gloss on the performance.”
Sutton thumped 10-man Wrexham 3-0 at home and boss Paul Doswell said: “We reminded the players that this is the standard they should be aiming for every week.”
A penalty from Jamie Collins and further strikes from Kieran Cadogan and Craig Eastmond downed the Dragons, who had Luke Summerfield sent off.
Salford boss Graham Alexander praised Boreham Wood for “giving it a real go” when they found themselves three down to his boys.
Tom Walker, Mark Shelton and Rory Gaffney were on target as the Ammies claimed a 3-1 win and Alexander said: “They know they have been in a game.”
