Lorenzo is a Marq-ed man after smash

-

JORGE LORENZO last night slammed Marc Marquez for wrecking his Aragon MotoGP and potentially putting him out of the next race.

Lorenzo high-sided his Ducati on the first corner of the race after Marquez dived down the inside and ran him wide in a bold move to grab the lead.

The crash left Lorenzo with a dislocated toe and fracture of the second metatarsal of his right foot, making him a doubt for the next race in Thailand in two weeks’ time.

The pair are due to be Honda team-mates next season but Lorenzo said: “Marc destroyed my race, destroyed my foot, destroyed also the big possibility that I have to win and probably also the Thailand race.

“I feel a lot of anger about what happened today because I was convinced that I could have a great race and fight for the win.

“I think Marc is relapsing with this type of action. He does not care about the other pilots and he knows it well.

“Now we’ll have to see how long it will take to heal and I just hope I can manage to stay in place for Thailand.

“It is a real shame to get away from Aragon with another zero and, moreover, injured. I am very disappointed and sad.”

Marquez took his sixth win of the season yesterday after a race-long scrap with Lorenzo’s team-mate Andrea Dovizioso, who took the lead after Lorenzo hit the dirt.

Marquez (right) said: “I haven’t seen the Lorenzo crash and didn’t see the pit board saying, ‘Lorenzo out’.

“In the first turn I came in quite fast and sliding, I went wide, it was very similar to another moment with Dovizioso where we touched, and I went on the green ®Êby ZOE BURN [paint]. That’s the danger of this track.

“If you go on the dirty part of the track, it’s easy to crash.

“It’s a racing incident, but when you go on to the dirty part of the track amid all the adrenalin of the start, you have to be calm – not open the throttle.”

Marquez slotted into second and kept close behind his rival, making his first move for the lead on lap 14.

But Dovizioso was not having any of it, grabbing first spot straight back and the pair continued to swap places for the next few laps, with the Italian hitting the front once more.

With three laps to go Marquez decided it was time to make his move again and took the win by

0.648secs, with Andrea Iannone third for Suzuki.

“I was riding really well at the beginning, I was able to follow Andrea in a good way and in the end we were fighting,” said Marquez.

“I had a great fight, really lots of moves and at one point I was completely at the limit but I took it on and I won.”

Dovizioso said: “We learnt something important for the future so I’m happy with that.” Britain’s Cal Crutchlow’s race ended in the gravel when he crashed out on lap five, while Bradley Smith finished

13th and Scott Redding 16th.
