We're top dogs for greyhound racing

PUNTERS have put their faith in Frankie Dettori for this Saturday’s bet365 Cambridgeshire when he partners Wissahickon.

The John Gosden-trained three-yearold was backed yesterday with Ladbrokes from 14-1 down to 10-1 and now shares favouritism with Kynren. Gosden is hoping to make it a fourth victory in the competitive Newmarket handicap.

Dettori’s solitary success came on the Gosden-trained Halling in 1994. Wissahickon, unlikely to be another Halling who went on to win the Coral-Eclipse on two occasions, has a progressive profile.

This has not gone unnoticed by the handicapper as he now runs off a rating of 107 following his impressive victory at Chelmsford last month. Aidan O’Brien, not noted for his runners in handicaps, is expected to run Kenya.

The colt was an impressive winner of the Irish Cambridgeshire on his penultimate start and backed that up with a fine effort to finish second to stablemate I Can Fly in the Boomerang Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend.

O’Brien is also expected to send over Ten Sovereigns from his Tipperary stables for the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes.

The colt made a huge impression on his racecourse debut at the Curragh last month and returned to the track to win the Group Three Round Tower Stakes.

He is a best-priced 8-1 joint secondfavourite for next year’s 2,000 Guineas, behind Too Darn Hot, and is the 8-11 favourite to keep his unbeaten record intact in Saturday’s six-furlong Group One contest.

O’Brien has also left in Land Force, Sergei Prokofiev and Van Beethoven as he bids to win the race for a record sixth time.

Pretty Pollyanna, favourite for next year’s 1,000 Guineas, is on target for the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes. Michael Bell’s filly already has a Group One win to her name having landed the Prix Morny at Deauville last time out, with the John Quinn-trained Signora Cabello chasing her home that day.

Quinn believes he has a realistic chance of turning the tables.

“Saturday is a different day and on a different track. I’m very happy with our filly,” he said.

“It was a tough race in the Morny but the timing has been good.

“Her recent work has been good so I’m expecting a big run from her. “She’s the best filly I’ve ever trained.” Bell also puts in a positive word for his filly.

“She has danced every dance that we wanted her to and I’m very happy with her,” said the Newmarket handler.

The connections of The Mackem Bullet, who was touched off in the Lowther by Fairyland, have forked out the £20,000 supplementary entry to run, as have the owners Queen Of Bermuda, a winner at Ayr on Saturday.
