IT'S TIME TO PUT ON A SHOW

Today's top Lingfield tips from Starform

1.30 There has been improvement from GOODWOOD SHOWMAN (nap) since a wind operation. He followed a close second at Kempton with victory at the same venue for which he has been raised 5lb. He is a lightly-raced type open to further progression. Blinkers are tried on The Warrior, who is consistent at this level but does not get his head in front too often. However, he comes here on the back of another solid effort at Kempton and has dropped 2lb. He is a possible and so is Arctic Sea if he can overcome his high draw. He may have got the run of the race when making all over track and trip but, if getting an uncontested lead again, may prove difficult to pass. Robin Weathers showed promise on his debut for a new yard when third at Nottingham and could build on that while the form of Agar’s Plough’s Chelmsford second has worked out.

3.10 It is difficult to see past SWORDBILL (nb). He completed his hat-trick with ease at Chelmsford on Saturday and, though showing he is carrying a 12lb penalty, is actually only racing off a 6lb higher mark. Half of that is negated by the up-and-coming Jason Watson’s claim. General

Zoff was trounced four lengths by the selection when the pair met at Kempton two outings ago but now has a 10lb pull. There should be little to choose between them at the revised weights though Swordbill has clearly improved and can confirm placings. It is difficult to get excited about the others though,

Woofie, has winning form at this distance and has slipped to a mark 2lb lower than when last successful.

3.20 Over half the field have a course and distance success to their name and one of them, STAFFA (treble), gets the nod. She finished a length behind Sandfrankskipsgo two outings ago over track and trip and now has a 1lb pull. There should be little between them at the revised weights but the selection dwelt that day and that proved costly. Both of Spin Top’s career victories have come over course and distance and he has a decent record at the track. This is his level and he can make his presence felt. Recent course winner, Midnight Guest, takes a slight step up in grade and will need to improve again off a 7lb higher mark and that also applies to Jan’s Joy. She won very easily at Yarmouth but failed to repeat that on a slower surface on her return to the same venue and is now 8lb higher.
