Danny’s anger at fixtures mayhem

- By JULIE STOTT

CONCERNS: Danny Ward DANNY WARD claims it is “madness” that clubs will discover their fate at different times this week.

A freakish set of results means that six teams, including Super League champions Leeds, can still end up in the dreaded Million Pound Game.

Widnes have already been relegated, while danger still looms for the three other Super League sides, especially Hull KR.

But Ward, coach of Championship side London Broncos, says it’s wrong that the games are staggered over four days.

He said: “It is probably an advantage to us because we play on Saturday, so we’ll know by that time what four of the clubs above us have done.

“But it is madness that games are all kicking off on different days when there is so much riding on them.

Tight

“TV factors are involved, but nobody probably thought three Championship clubs would still be so involved at this point.”

Second-placed Salford will know they are safe as early as Thursday if they beat fifth-placed Toulouse at home.

Leeds are next up on Friday against Toronto, with both sides desperate for a win to avoid the Million Pound Game.

Sixth-placed London are likely to claim a place in that do-or-die tie, between the fourth and fifth sides, if they beat whipping boys Halifax on Saturday.

But fourth-placed Hull KR have to sweat it out until Sunday, hoping they then beat Widnes and that other results have gone their way.

Ward said: “It is quality and a great competition at the moment because it is so tight for so many teams.

“There is so much pressure on the Super League clubs and not so much on the Championship sides, so it’s a good place to be.

“But we just need to concentrate on playing Halifax because if we have one eye on the other fixtures, we will take our eye off the ball.”

London beat Salford 11-8 at the weekend and Ward said: “Our belief has always been there that we can achieve.”
