Club left Red-faced
Jose Mourinho’s claim it was their fault United’s coach was delayed.
Paul Pogba reveal he had been gagged by officials.
Club skipper Valencia said sorry after liking a fan’s Instagram post calling for Mourinho to be sacked.
The message said: “Recently Mourinho has made watching us a punishment now. Something needs to change. It’s time for Mourinho to go.”
But yesterday Valencia, 33, claimed he had not read the post before he liked it.
Apologising on Twitter he said: “I liked a post on Instagram without reading the text that accompanied the picture. These are not my views and I apologise. I’m fully supportive of the manager.”
United are facing a UEFA charge which could see them fined after the kick-off for their Group H clash with the Spaniards was delayed by five minutes.
The team bus arrived at Old Trafford 45 minutes before the scheduled 8pm kick-off after being delayed in traffic.
United boss Mourinho said they were late because they were denied a police escort.
But Greater Manchester Police chief inspector Andy Sutcliffe said: “Escort team buses are only ever undertaken on occasions when there is intelligence or information to suggest a risk of threat or harm to the players.”
Pogba added to his strained relationship with Mourinho by saying, when asked for an interview: “I’ve been told I’m not allowed.”
The France midfielder angered his boss by publicly criticising his tactics and calling for United to attack more after the draw with Wolves last month.
