WINKS HAS A LITTLE BIT TO DO STILL

TOTTENHAM’s ‘Little Iniesta’ looked like the shoes he was trying to fill were just too big for him last night.

With Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli all missing, Harry Winks was given a chance to shine against Barcelona.

Mauricio Pochettino loves him, and nicknamed him after former Barca star Andres Iniesta, who is a World Cup and double European championsh­ip winner with Spain.

But it looked like a foolish comparison here as the visitors put on a show to leave Winks and many of his team-mates looking out of their depth.

Winks made his name in this competitio­n, earning rave reviews against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund last season to spark talk of an England call-up for the World Cup.

An ankle injury put paid to that, but there are those at Spurs who remain convinced he could be the answer to Gareth Southgate’s problems in the Three Lions engine room.

Winks had only started one other match for Spurs this season – the penalty shoot-out win over Watford in the Carabao Cup at Milton Keynes.

And it didn’t start well for him in this one. He was partly to blame for the opening goal, failing to put any pressure on Lionel Messi as he played the key pass out wide to Jordi Alba.
