Airman’s body ‘in waste site’

- By JAMES CAVEN

THE body of missing airman Corrie McKeague is at a landfill site, his family said last night.

His heartbroken relatives plan to hold a private memorial for him as police believe he was taken away in a Biffa bin.

The grim conclusion was reached after officers quizzed dustcart teams.

They confirmed the weight of one wheelie bin on the day he vanished in September 2016 was above average. A typical container would be between 20kg and 30kg but one was 116kg, although it was never opened to check why.

The Scots-born RAF gunner, 23, is thought to have climbed into the bin before falling asleep after a boozy night out in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

His father Martin and partner Trisha visited the spot where he was last seen to lay flowers and cards.

He said: “We laid flowers and cards with notes from family and friends in the horseshoe at Bury St Edmunds on the second anniversary of Corrie’s disappearance.

“The police have confirmed the Biffa bin weight that suggests HUNT: Corrie McKeague my son ended up in the

Suffolk waste disposal system. They also confirmed that there is no new evidence whatsoever. My son is gone and the McKeague family in Scotland will be holding a private memorial for him in the near future.”

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: “This investigation has found no other reasonable explanation for that unusually high bin weight.”

Corrie was seen on CCTV entering a bin-loading area behind a bakery. A huge manhunt was launched but police shelved their search in March this year.
