‘We don’t have cash to save perfect boy Charlie’

MUM RAPS NHS OVER DYING SON

- By SIAN HEWITT news@dailystar.co.uk

A DESPERATE mum has slammed the NHS as they prepare to allow her “brave and wonderful boy” to die.

Amber Schofield has revealed how doctors have told her they can do no more for five-year-old Charlie.

He suffers from hepatoblastoma – a rare liver cancer that has only ever affected eight children in the UK.

She blasted NHS bosses who allow a system which benefits “rich families” over poor ones after they were denied life-saving treatment in the

UK. The family, from

Accrington, Lancs, have been told Charlie has a maximum of 14 days to live, but have found a doctor who has agreed to do treatment in the US if Charlie can get there within the week.

Amber, 24 said: “We don’t have the money to save our baby. How cruel is that? We have a week to save our brave and wonderful boy.”

The treatment involving a liver transplant costs £1million. The NHS has refused to grant Charlie one, as a successful transplant is not guaranteed. “As a mother it is difficult to accept my son will die because we aren’t rich enough to save him.

“The more you have, the more likely it is that your child will live.”

The family are asking 500,000 people to donate £2 – the cost of a cup of coffee. Visit justgiving.com/crowdfunding/coinsforcharlie
