WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY
THEY’RE looking for John Lennon on THE BIG AUDITION (9pm, ITV). By which I mean a guy to play him in The Upbeat Beatles, one of the UKs top tribute bands.
I daren’t ask what happened to the previous John.
Among the contenders is Gary, 53, a Wolverhampton postman. Gary is excited at the thought of landing this job, which could earn him up to £40,000 a year.
“It would be like winning the lottery,” he says. “Probably better, actually.” The people Gary has to impress at his audition include the bloke who used to be Paul McCartney, again not literally. That’s the band’s manager, John Wilson. He’s there alongside the band’s producer, plus Ringo.
Who isn’t really Ringo, obviously.
(Still with me here? Great.) Gary does a quick non-singing Lennon impression, which sounds more like Ozzy Osbourne impersonating Cilla, and then treats the panel to a heartfelt acoustic rendition of the This Boy, a 1963 B-side.
And has Gary left a lasting impression? “That was nice, Mark,” says John. Elsewhere, kids’ TV channel CITV are looking for a new presenter, while cosmetics brand Barry M are hoping to find a hand model.
Candidates for the hand modelling job include Ruby, 20, from Yorkshire. It’s the first time she’s gone for a job like this, so she’s a bit jittery as she checks in.
“I feel like I need a nervous wee,” she announces.
Before that, THE GADGET SHOW (7pm, Channel 5) arranges a tech-themed night for a bride to enjoy before her big day. Treats include a personalised chocolate lolly machine.
