SO there you are, just cruising along the motorway at

62mph, when you come across the sign that every driver hates: “Queue after next junction. Long delays.”

Hmm, what do you do? If you had one of these things, the Vaylon Pegasse Mark II, you could simply float over the traffic jam ahead at up to

51mph. The idea is the dream of French firm Vaylon, who showed off their latest version of the Pegasse at last week’s Paris Motor Show.

And it made a change from outdated petrol monsters like the Ferrari Monza, launched in the most earsplitting demonstration of how to foul up the air we breathe, to the electric cars that still don’t quite persuade us to buy. The Pegasse II has gained a safety cover around its rear propeller in a bid to make it street legal. Will it work? That’s yet to be seen.

Top speed of this short take-off and landing (STOL) monster paraglider is 62mph on the ground, while it will cruise at 51 mph at 10,000ft for up to three hours with two passengers sitting motorbike style, one behind the other. To say that it was the star of a show that offered little in real-life surprises except for the non-polluting Kia E-Nero, with its 320-mile range before recharging, is an understatement.

Want the air-car? Contact www.vaylon.eu but do not expect to get away without a bill for 150,000 euros.
