Khab’s quit threat over Conor brawl

- By CHISANGA MALATA

KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV has vowed to quit the UFC if his team-mate Zubaira Tukhugov is punished for attacking Conor McGregor.

Nurmagomedov sparked a huge scuffle, after submitting ‘The Notorious’ in the main event of UFC 229 in Las Vegas, by leaping out of the octagon and attempting to dropkick the Irishman’s coach Dillon Danis.

Tukhugov then entered the cage and launched himself at the crestfallen McGregor, who was also sucker punched by another member of his rival’s team.

The Russian featherweight is facing a lifetime ban from MMA’s premier promotion. And should his fellow countryman be given the axe, the UFC’s lightweight king has promised to walk away.

Nurmagomedov said: “If you decide to fire him, you should know you’ll lose me too. We never give up on our brothers in Russia. If you still decide to fire him, don’t forget to send me my broken contract or I’ll break it myself.”

Nurmagomedov’s £1.5m guaranteed purse is being held by the Nevada State Athletic Commission pending the outcome of an investigation.

‘The Eagle’ doesn’t care about his pay cheque, adding: “And one more thing, you can keep my money that you are withholding.

“We have defended our honour and this is the most important thing.” Russia’s first UFC champion says his team’s actions at the T-Mobile Arena are no worse than McGregor’s rampage in New York and believes they are being unfairly punished.

“Why didn’t you fire anyone when their team attacked the bus and injured people?” he said.

“Why do you have to punish my team, when both teams fought? If you say I started it, I do not agree. I finished what he had started.” ANGRY: Nurmagomedov
