Aidy in seven heaven

ENGLAND booked their place at Euro 2019 with an emphatic display of goal power.

Aidy Boothroyd’s boys went into the game needing only a point to make sure they would be in Italy and San Marino.

But they weren’t in the mood to take chances and had Andorra on the ropes from the start.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored either side of half-time to add to goals from Ademola Lookman, Ezri Konsa, substitutes Dominic Solanke and Reiss Nelson.

There was also an own goal from Christian Garcia to finish it all off at Chesterfield.

Manchester City wonderboy Phil Foden made an accomplished debut in midfield as England completely swamped the visitors.

Boothroyd won’t have had an easier half-time team talk even if he stays in the business for the next 40 years.

Danger

His Young Lions were three goals to the good, in control and not in the slightest danger.

From the minute Lookman shot them into a ninth-minute lead the writing was on the wall.

The Everton man cashed in with a close-range shot and but for keeper Francisco Pires Andorra would have shipped even more.

He made a flying save to beat away a CalvertLewin header, then made a timely stop to deny Foden before the visitors’ defence was breached again in the 28th minute.

Pires managed to stop Lewis Cook’s shot from distance but was powerless to prevent Konsa from slotting in the loose ball.

On the stroke of half-time Lookman took advantage of the keeper’s hesitancy and squared the ball for Calvert-Lewin to score.

Four minutes after the break Calvert-Lewin helped himself to another, smashing home a penalty after a foul on Konsa in the box.

Solanke and Nelson got in on the act with goals in the last nine minutes and then Garcia bundled the ball into his own net to complete the rout.
