Look what firework did to our little girl

PARENTS of a five-yearold girl set alight by a firework have revealed her horrific injuries to warn others.

Rosie Mason was enjoying a display last Bonfire Night with her family when a firework fell down her jacket and set her coat alight.

The tot, who was with mum Ellie, 29, dad James, 30, and brother Christian, seven, needed a skin graft from her scalp to heal the burnt patch on her neck.

Now, ahead of displays next month, Ellie, of Cwmbran, Monmouths, is warning other parents to keep their children inside to watch the fun.

The self-employed therapist said: “We only went to a friend’s house to watch some fireworks but it ended up being a disaster.

“We lit a multi-shot and it went off at an angle rather than straight up and banged behind my son.

“I looked round to check he was OK, but then I heard my daughter shouting ‘ouch’ and the firework had flared off into her.

“As soon as it hit her she tucked her neck in and trapped it, which caused her coat to set on fire.

“Suddenly, we were on our way to hospital and my daughter was battling horrific burns.”

Rosie still needs another procedure to free the skin on her neck. Ellie added: “We never want this to happen to anyone else – which is why we want to encourage people to enjoy fireworks from a safe place.”
