AN evil conwoman stole a fortune from elderly relatives.

Asha Dawes faked cancer – shaving her head – and blagged cash from her victims to supposedly pay for treatment.

Her grandparents were left so poor they nearly starved to death.

The mum-of-one was jailed for four years yesterday after admitting three charges of fraud.

Dawes, 22, sent bogus emails from HRMC claiming that grandad John Pinder, 70, and grandma Shirley, 69, owed money, then posed as a solicitor offering “help”.

After talking them into selling their house and moving to Spain she warned them not to check their bank accounts as they could be traced.

But it was all a scam to bleed them dry. Starting aged 17, she took more than £135,000 from her family – none of which has ever been recovered. Dawes swindled more than £75,000 from the Pinders. They had brought her up as their own daughter since she was 10. She left them “homeless, hospitalised and in horrendous health”, Hove Crown Court, East Sussex, was told. A statement from the couple read in court said: “She was our little angel. We have been absolutely destroyed.

“We don’t even have money for our own funerals.” Dawes, of Worthing, West Sussex, conned over £60,000 from an uncle and aunt, Nick and Shirley Young. A statement from the Youngs said they had found the Pinders “skeletal” and dying in Spain.

JAILED: Dawes
