Dead gran baked into biccies

- By JACK ANDREWS jack.andrews@dailystar.co.uk

A SCHOOLGIRL claims she baked cookies using her grandmother’s ashes and then fed them to her classmates.

The unnamed pupil boasted of mixing the remains into a batch of biscuits after handing them out to nine friends.

A fellow student said: “This girl is going around telling everyone she had brought these cookies to school with human ashes in them.”

The boy claims the Da Vinci Charter Academy High School, in Davis, California, asked him to sign a statement agreeing not to tell anyone what happened. His mum said: “It blew my mind. I was really repulsed and I was upset that I wasn’t even notified.”

His dad added: “The district seems to be a bit more concerned about protecting themselves than protecting their students.”

Police confirmed they are investigating, but said there had so far received no reports of anyone falling ill. A spokesman for the school district said: “While we cannot comment on confidential student matters, I can tell you that the physical and social-emotional safety of our students is our first priority.”

In a letter to parents Da Vinci High principal Tyler Millsap said there was “no health risk to our campus or to any one of our students”. He added: “Those who were involved are remorseful and this is now a personal family matter and we want to respect the privacy of the families involved.” Police lieutenant Paul Doroshov said the case was “a weird one” and said research was needed to decide whether anyone could face charges.

Tests are due to be carried out to see if the snacks contained any human remains. The Star Says: Page 6
