HERE WE SNOW
Britain to face polar vortex
BRITAIN is set to be gripped by a freezing Polar vortex that will send temperatures plummeting as snow showers lash the country.
Arctic conditions will see the UK blanketed in snow and ice for a four-month freeze.
A freak weather pattern will see balmy autumn temperatures of 22C nosedive below zero this week as Arctic air slams into the atmosphere.
Forecasters fear that “substantial snowfall” triggered by a shift in the jet stream will soon bring Britain to a standstill for months.
Meteorologists believe that the frigid blast will be even worse than last year’s attack of the “Beast from the East”.
Piers Corbyn, from WeatherAction warned: “We are expecting some quite severe snowfall before the end of this month and it will not just be confined to the far north.
“This could reach parts of the Midlands or even further south.
“This spell of very cold weather looks like bringing substantial snow to a more widespread area of the country than people would necessarily expect at this time of year.”
Sub-zero temperatures before the end of the month could see record-breaking lows recorded across the country.
Weather watchers predict that dramatic changes to the earth’s atmosphere will send a frosty front sweeping south across northern Europe.
Mr Corbyn added: “Again we are looking at a wildly meandering jet stream.
“All of this will affect the air over the North Pole and we could be looking at some pretty decent Polar vortexes throughout winter which will have a significant effect on temperatures and snowfall.”
Other climate experts agree that the first big freeze of the winter will hammer Britain within days.
