Richard told me: “Touring with Liam taught me that having old and young fans together is normal.

“A few years ago, a lot of people would have imagined me and Liam together as: ‘Here we go, fortysomet­hing lads on a nostalgia trip’.

“But no, the energy was electric and the amount of 17-20-year-old posses watching the two of us was amazing.

“It’s why we need a fresh start in music, a line in the sand.

“You’re either making your own music or you’re an end-of-the-pier entertaine­r on steroids.”

Richard has just released new album, Natural Rebel and feels 2018 is a better time for songwriter­s compared to his Verve days.

Richard explained: “If you’re on a creative roll, the music industry used to seize the wheels up.

“But now you get guys like Drake and Kanye West BAD Bunny has snared J.Lo for his next tune.

The star has joined forces with Lopez for an upbeat dance releasing stuff all the time and that’s healthy.”

And the rocker has been inspired by Anthony Joshua, below, who he watched ringside at Wembley Stadium. He laughed: “I’m sure his family must have been looking at me going: ‘Who the hell is that guy?’

“He has a phrase about life I find interestin­g called levels. It’s about the level you’re at in life.

“It’s not about arrogance, I’m not better than any other music maker. But when you put the whole package together – I am the world title.” Catch Richard Ashcroft on the road next week. track with both artists delivering Spanish language vocals.
