WEMBLEY should not have to be sold to pay for grassroots football – the Premier League should be paying for it.
To watch the FA have to try to sell the national stadium to help kids up and down the country have proper pitches is a shame and an embarrassment.
There is more money in football than ever before but grassroots football is sinking to new depths.
There aren’t enough pitches and the ones we do have are poorly kept and too expensive. There are too many kids who can’t afford to play football in this country. That’s shocking.
To keep a team running now is so difficult and it shouldn’t be. How many other countries in the world make you pay for a pitch? They should be free.
Look at the state of them as well. How many times does your kid’s match get called off because the pitch is unplayable?

You would only have to drip one per cent out of every Premier League club and we would have pitches like Wembley up and down the country.
Wembley is the ultimate in football. Everyone wants to score there. If you ask any player in the world where they most want to score a hat-trick, they’d say Wembley.
It would be a shame if we didn’t own it, if we had to sell it just to fund football in this country when we have the richest league in the world.
So I’m not disappointed that Shahid Khan isn’t buying Wembley. I’m not tearing my hair out that grassroots football is missing something because we can’t sell him our stadium.
Would Khan’s money ever have filtered down to the grassroots anyway? I’m not so sure. But it’s poor to have to think about selling to him anyway.
Wembley is the home of football, our national stadium. You should want to own it. It just seems like a short-term fix, to sell it, and use the money on ®Êby PAUL
