Marcus facing another Titanic struggle at Wembley
MARCUS MARIOTA has plenty to prove in tomorrow’s NFL showdown at Wembley. Tennessee Titans’ starting quarterback (left) was sacked a record 11 times last time out, a 21-0 defeat by Baltimore Ravens. Mariota faces the LA Chargers in the second of three London clashes (2.30pm).
That demoralising Ravens defeat was the Titans’ fourth shut-out in the last two seasons. But they sit top of the AFC South division after three wins and three losses. The Chargers are ‘hosts’ for this match and their only two defeats this campaign came at the hands of leading Superbowl contenders the Kansas City Chiefs and city rivals the LA Rams.
A hard-fought victory over the 49ers has been followed by two straightforward successes and the team from Tinseltown will head here in confident mood.
Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers has thrown for 1,702 yards and 15 touchdowns in six games against Mariota’s 793 yards for two touchdowns.
Chargers are 1-3 to take the match and are asked to give up 6.5 points on the spread at 10-11 against the 2-1 Titans.
Lewis Hamilton could seal a fifth Formula 1 drivers title in Texas tomorrow. He has a 67 point lead and could not be at a better venue to turn it into an unassailable one. The Brit has won five of the last six races in Austin the History title and here wrapped will in 2015. repeat up itself if he out-scores Sebastian Vettel by eight points – meaning a win for Hamilton and a third or worse finish for the German would seal the crown with three races to spare.
Hamilton is 1-2 to land the victory, Vettel 3-1 to prolong the season.
The Brit’s Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas is a13-2 and it is 14-1 and bigger for the remainder of the grid.
