BEN BACKING HART

- By DAVID ANDERSON

I’m sure he wants to prove it. He’s still got a lot to offer.”

Mee is certain he will get a fantastic reception from the Etihad faithful.

Hart, 31, spent 12 years at City after joining as a teenager from Shrewsbury in 2006 and was a central figure in their glory run between 2011 and 2016.

City have named a training pitch at their Academy HQ in his honour and Mee senses he is relishing returning.

“I’m sure he’s looking forward to it,” said the defender.

“He’s well thought of at the club, I know that, for what he did over the years. I’m sure he will enjoy going back and that he’ll get a very good reception.

“I played in his first game when he arrived at City, so I’ve known him from a young lad. He’s a good lad.”

Mee claims Hart’s decision to join Burnley from City was an endorsement of the progress they have made under Sean Dyche.

“It was great for us,” he said. “He looked at us, how we train and how the club’s developed, and thought he could come here and maybe get back on track to where he was a couple of years ago.

“That’s testament to the club. He’s a good character, a big character and an experienced character.

“To have someone of his experience around the group always helps.”
