NEW OWNERS: The inn BRITAIN’S oldest pub in a building that dates back to

825 AD has new owners. The Cridford Inn, formerly a farmhouse which was mentioned in the Domesday Book in

1086, has been snapped up after being put up for sale earlier this year.

The pub in Trusham, Devon, sits on the site of one of the county’s oldest dwellings and is reputed to have two ghosts.

The long-term lease was bought for around £40,000 by Paul and Ness Moir, from Surrey.

They have pledged to keep it going as a country inn, which is said to be the oldest building in Britain currently operating as a pub.

Jon Clyne, director at estate agents Charles Darrow which managed the sale, said: “It is a real gem of a pub.

“We had much interest, but Paul and Ness were standout candidates and we look forward to all of their plans coming to fruition.

“They are moving here for a lifestyle change.”

The pub includes four en-suite guest rooms, a sizeable car park and beer garden next to a stream.
