Bosses killed allergy girl, 15
TWO takeaway bosses have been found guilty of the manslaughter of a
15-year-old girl who died after an allergic reaction.
Nut allergy sufferer Megan Lee ate a meal that was later found to have the “widespread presence” of peanut protein.
She had an immediate reaction to a seekh kebab and died two days later after suffering irreversible brain damage from a later asthma attack.
The food was ordered by a pal through the Just Eat website from the Royal Spice Takeaway in Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, in December 2016.
She wrote “prawns, nuts” in the comments and notes section.
Yesterday a jury at Manchester Crown Court found takeaway owner Mohammed Abdul Kuddus,
40, and Harun Rashid, 38, who was alleged to be the manager, guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence.
Peter Wright QC, prosecuting, said Megan’s death was a “disaster waiting to happen”.
It was alleged there was a “litany of failings” in the kitchen, including poor hygiene and no records of ingredients kept.
The takeaway, which was closed immediately by Trading Standards officers, has now reopened under new ownership.
The two men will be sentenced on November 7.
