A chance for Terry to test his Prograis

-

TERRY FLANAGAN is a fighter that ups his game when presented with a big challenge.

That’s why I believe he can take on the best the World Boxing Super Series has to offer.

The Manchester light-welterweight faces a big test when he meets American Regis Prograis in the early hours of tomorrow in New Orleans.

Flanagan is up against an unbeaten fighter who packs a punch so will have to bring his A game to the States for the quarter-final of the tournament.

Prograis is highlytouted across The Pond and Flanagan is going into his backyard.

It is only Flanagan’s second fight at the weight.

Awkward

The former WBO lightweight champion came up short when he faced Maurice Hooker for the vacant WBO light-welterweight crown in June.

It was Flanagan’s first defeat and he wasn’t dealt an easy card in facing a very awkward American.

But he didn’t sulk and pushed to get himself into the WBSS tournament to get his hands on a world title again.

There are some talented fighters in his division with Scotsman Josh Taylor in the other half of the ® Interview by

CHRIS McKENNA draw. So there are some big fights there for Flanagan (below), who has always craved a challenge.

It was often difficult to get him willing opponents because the southpaw was a daunting test for most.

That’s why he eventually moved up to light-welterweight and now he has to prove he can mix it with the best in this weight class.

There are a lot of positives and negatives about the eight-man tournament format but it will at least decide the top fighter in the light-welterweight division at the moment.

Flanagan has yet to see his beloved Manchester City win the European Cup so maybe he will get his hands on what they’ve been calling the

Champions

League of boxing first.
