Claude future a bit fishy

- By JAMES NURSEY

UNDER THREAT: Puel CLAUDE PUEL insists Leicester were right not to sack him in the summer but admits the “piranhas” may return soon.

The Foxes boss survived the axe despite finishing last season with five defeats in seven games.

It saw the Frenchman describe the Premier League side as a “piranha club” with unhappy fans clamouring for his exit.

Now the grumblings are starting again after back-to-back defeats ahead of West Ham’s visit today.

But Puel, who has been in charge at the King Power Stadium for a year, said: “I think the club went in the right direction.

“Look at the recruitment and the extension of all the contracts since the beginning of the season.

“It is fantastic to keep Harry Maguire, Kasper Schmeichel, Wilfred Ndidi and Ben Chilwell.

“All these young, talented players can continue at the club. I think it is the right way to improve.

“But you have to have good results to keep the confidence of all the people – the fans and owners.”

No top-flight boss has been sacked yet this season but both Puel and his opposite number today Manuel Pellegrini have been under pressure.

Puel added: “I think there has been progress but I don’t know if this patience will continue a long time.”
