Marco tells Toffees to be fearless

- By CHRIS McKENNA

MARCO SILVA insists Everton must play without fear to end their awful record on the road against the Premier League’s big boys.

The Toffees have won just five league games away at the Big Six in the last DECADE.

Their last win was when they stunned tomorrow’s opponents Manchester United with a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in December 2013.

If Everton have real ambitions of breaking into the top six on a regular basis then they have to perform better against United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.

And boss Silva said: “To be able to win at Old Trafford or at one of the other strong sides in the country you have to be strong as a squad.

“You have to have the personality and the character to not fear and to be yourselves.

“First you have to respect our opponent because they are a strong side even if they are not in the best moment, they are a strong side with a lot of individual quality.

Respect

“They are spending big, big money on big players but we have to be ourselves.

“You have to play and not be scared. You have to respect them but play our game.

“We have to have quality with the ball as well as it is part of our model and it doesn’t make sense if you go there and don’t play our way.” Silva’s own record is not too impressive, with just one point from 10 games against the Big Six as Hull, Watford and Everton manager. Ironically that point came as Tigers boss at Old Trafford in February 2017.

He said: “My approach and for all the matches – not just against the strong sides – I will prepare and I don’t have doubts. We prepare always for winning the match.”

Silva has no doubts about himself or his fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho, who is feeling the heat at Old Trafford.

Silva added: “When you are at a club like Man United, your goals are to win every match, to be champions, to win all the competitions that you are playing in. “Mourinho knows how he can manage the situation. It is not the first time in his career he feels this situation.

‘‘I don’t have doubts about him or what he can do. He won’t doubt himself.”
