Wedding bells after Rio proposes on luxury trip
HAPPY Rio Ferdinand was celebrating last night after getting engaged to sexy Kate Wright in front of his three children.
The ex-Man United star, whose previous wife died of cancer, told delighted fans: “She said yes!”
RIO Ferdinand was celebrating his engagement last night after his kids begged him to propose to model Kate Wright in front of them on holiday.
He told fans “she said yes!” as the pair showed off Kate’s engagement ring on their break in Abu Dhabi.
The former England star’s news comes three years after his first wife, Rebecca Ellison, died of breast cancer aged just 34.
Former Towie star Kate has slowly brought 39-year-old Rio back from what he called “a dark place”.
And she was on cloud nine last night after the romantic proposal, saying: “The perfect end to our holiday... How could the answer not be yes?” Rio’s three children by Rebecca have grown to love Kate, 27, and have been urging their dad to propose for months.
And Lorenz, 12, Tate, 10, and Tia, seven, got their way as Rio went down on one knee. They all hugged in a tight circle after Kate said yes.
And they want the pair to give them another brother or sister as Rio and Kate start plotting their nuptials.
A source said: “The kids love Kate. She’ll never replace Mum but they all have a close bond and there have even been jokes about babies.”
Rio swore Lorenz, Tate, and Tia to secrecy while he shopped for a ring.
He said: “How these three kids kept it a secret I’ll never know?”
Kate gave up her role on Towie after she met Rio and his kids.
Talking about the children, she said: “I met Rio, he had children who lost their mum, they didn’t have a woman in their lives. “Someone needs to be at home and give them love.”
WE often complain footballers are spoilt.
But it’s easy to forget they face the same hardships we do.
And that’s why it’s great to see Rio Ferdinand find happiness again.
The England legend has been through dark times since his wife Rebecca Ellison died from cancer three years ago.
Bringing up their three children as a single dad can’t have been easy. But he’s always made sure he’s put those kids first.
So for the ex-Manchester United star to find someone to share his life with is brilliant.
He showed he’s a romantic at heart, too, in the way he proposed to Kate Wright on holiday. The very best to them both.
