DESPITE half of us worrying about being ripped off when buying a second-hand car, another half don’t even bother with a test drive, shows a survey by Gumtree classifieds. Other common purchasing pitfalls are that 56% don’t ask to see the log book, 64% don’t request a written receipt and a massive 71% fail to check prices to get the best deal. Gumtree’s Vik Barodia said: “The results are very surprising.”

NINE out of 10 new cars are now bought on finance, leasing and subscription deals, reports Auto Trader, which predicts that in 10 years’ time no-one will own a new car. The firm’s Nathan Coe said: “As consumers increasingly source their cars in the same way they do their music or movies, cars will evolve alongside it.” ®

AFTER spending most walks in cities dodging girls glued to their mobiles it came as no surprise to learn that one in six women admit using a phone in their car compared to one in nine men. A survey by Select Car Leasing also showed that 7% of women have sent texts while 5% have read emails or browsed the web. For men it’s 4% and 3%.
