The British music industry is worth
£4.5billion to the UK economy and employs a tidy 146,000 people, according to a Measuring Music report.
British acts like Ed Sheeran, left, are a hit around the globe. They helped rake in £2.6bn. In 2017, Sheeran’s album Divide was the biggest selling worldwide.
Four albums by UK acts appeared in the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s global top 10: Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Harry Styles, and Rag’n’Bone Man.
Pop star Dua Lipa, 23, beat Rihanna and Taylor Swift to become Spotify’s most-streamed female artist of 2017.
UK live acts are a smash around the world bringing in
£1bn, helped by tours by The Rolling Stones and Coldplay.

Scottish DJ Calvin Harris was the highest earning DJ in the world for five years according to Forbes, clocking up annual sales of around £36.4m.
The growth in music sales is at its fastest since the
mid-1990s. Takings from streaming, downloads and physical sales hit £839m according to industry group BPI.
The vinyl revival has seen record sales soar by 24%, while even sales of retro style cassettes has more than doubled.
Globally, we have the fourth biggest music market. The US is top.
In a recent poll, the Beatles were voted the best band ever… by Americans.
