Rock star reveals torment

ROGER Daltrey says school bullies left him “almost suicidal” after hanging him on fences.

The Who singer claims he was picked on because he did not have a posh voice like his fellow pupils.

He also says he was bullied for his looks, which changed after his jaw was broken.

The 74-year-old said: “I didn’t understand a word they were saying.

“It didn’t help that I was very skinny and quirky-looking. “Very quickly, very predictably, I was bullied.”

The father of five revealed other boys at London’s Acton County Grammar called him “trog”.

He added: “A favourite pastime of the older boys was to hang me from the wiremesh fence that surrounded the playground.”

The Pinball Wizard crooner revealed he would try to run away from it all by skipping lessons.

He said: “I used to walk up and down the riverbank, starving and lonely, really desperately lonely.

“It was beautiful down there by the river because it was wild and green and the air was fresh, but I used to think, if this is what life is like, I don’t want to be here.

“I don’t want to be in this world. I felt almost suicidal.”

Things got so bad that the legendary singer once took his mum’s sleeping pills in a bid to block out the pain.

He said: “Mum and Dad couldn’t work out why I’d slept for 48 hours.”
