Saved my life

-

BLACK Eyed Peas star Taboo has revealed how bandmates will.i.am and apl.de.ap saved him during his cancer battle.

The rapper admitted he was close to giving up during years of secret horrendous chemo sessions, but they gave him the strength to carry on.

Picturing being back on stage with his best pals was what kept Taboo going.

He told me: “The thing that kept me fighting on was knowing I could be back on stage with my best friends, that kept my mind off that trauma I was going through, and the hardship.

“[I] was almost giving up because the chemo was so intense and aggressive that there were moments I had to find the inner strength within myself. But just knowing my best friends were there for me, fighting for me, my wife and my kids, that kept me going on.”

The band returned to touring last month, and Taboo has a fresh outlook on life. He added: “Now to be back in the UK performing is a dream come true, a second lease of life, just to be able to be on that big stage with my best friends creating new music, new memories, living my best life.”

They attended the annual Music Industry Trust Awards, honouring Emma Banks, but apl.de.ap admitted fancy dinners are hard now as Will has convinced him to give up meat and dairy. He laughed: “I got caught up in the waves so I’m vegan right now. It will be hard going home to the Philippines for Christmas.”
