NURSERY CRIMES

‘Black’ Sheep is baa-rred

SNOWFLAKE teachers are banning the word “black” from the nursery rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep.

Parents spoke out after kids began replacing “black” with “rainbow”, “fluffy” and “baby”.

New versions of the tune taught in schools were branded “ridiculous”.

Some say the changes are due to schools’ fear of being branded racist.

But historians have pointed out that the words are actually about a cruel wool tax passed on to farmers hundreds of years ago.

Mum-of-two Sammie Boardman from Redcar, Yorks, raged on Twitter: “Why is my son singing baa baa rainbow sheep? It’s BLACK sheep!”

A grandmother, from Stockport blasted: “My grandson started school and came home reciting ‘baa baa fluffy sheep’. My son has put a stop to that!”

A thread on the parenting site Netmums sparked a heated debate over the issue, with one furious mum commenting: “OMG! I am all for political correctness where it is actually beneficial in a situation, but where will it ever end?

“Why are these nursery rhymes being changed? I personally don’t know anyone with an issue of any sort over them.”

The latest snowflake storm comes after it was revealed the BBC had replaced the word “snowman” with “snowpeople” in new kids’ telly show Catie’s Amazing Machines. EWE CANNOT BE SERIOUS: Rainbow sheep
