KNIGHT FUMES AT PIKE RULE
A NEW fishery rule which allows up to four pike of any size to be killed per day has been branded the “work of a lunatic”.
The daily limit, which fails to specify any limit on weight of fish taken, is a catastrophe for catch-andrelease campaigners in Ireland as well as holiday fishers who contribute millions to the economy. Angling author Terry Knight said: “The new law allows the killing of trophy-sized pike – the very fish we all travel to Ireland to target. This has to hit angling tourism. The decision is the work of a total lunatic. We may have to say goodbye to Ireland as a destination to fish.” BARBEL fishing novice Dylan McLoughney hit the big fish jackpot when he landed an 18lb giant on his first trip for the species.
