KNIGHT FUMES AT PIKE RULE

-

A NEW fishery rule which allows up to four pike of any size to be killed per day has been branded the “work of a lunatic”.

The daily limit, which fails to specify any limit on weight of fish taken, is a catastrophe for catch-andrelease campaigners in Ireland as well as holiday fishers who contribute millions to the economy. Angling author Terry Knight said: “The new law allows the killing of trophy-sized pike – the very fish we all travel to Ireland to target. This has to hit angling tourism. The decision is the work of a total lunatic. We may have to say goodbye to Ireland as a destination to fish.” BARBEL fishing novice Dylan McLoughney hit the big fish jackpot when he landed an 18lb giant on his first trip for the species.

The 23-year-old had been fishing the Thames near Reading for just 20 minutes when the specimen bit. It took another 20 minutes to tame the fish after it took his legered boilie. LUKE VANES has become only the fourth UK angler ever to catch a carp weighing over 100lb.

Luke’s mirror weighed in at 102lb and was taken from legendary Euro Aqua, in Hungary. The fish fell to a hair-rigged boilie, presented over maize and hemp. BAIT inventor Leighton McDonnell used left overs from his dinner to lure a 7lb 1oz chub from the Great Ouse.

He liquidised Szechuan shredded beef and added two squid, four eggs, trout pellet powder and a dash of sherry to create a paste.
