KHAN WASTES £7m ON COP PEN-PUSHERS

LONDON Mayor Sadiq Khan was last night blasted for employing an army of pen-pushers instead of bobbies to beat knife crime.

He spends £7.1million a year on 109 executives, managers and researchers to oversee the Metropolitan Police.

Several of the bureaucrats, funded from the police budget, are paid over £100,000 a year.

The Mayor’s Office For Policing And Crime – aka Mopac – does not employ any serving officers.

Its recent decisions include spending £1m on customer satisfaction surveys asking the public: “How good a job do you think the police in this area are doing?’’

Five people were knifed to death in six days across the capital last week, BLASTED: Mr Khan bringing the city’s murder toll this year to 122. Mopac’s total wage bill could pay the £30,369 starting salaries of 233 PCs.

The influx would nearly double the size of the 271-strong Violent Crime Task Force set up by the Mayor earlier this year.

Shaun Bailey, Conservative candidate for London mayor, has vowed to slash costs in Mr Khan’s “bloated bureaucracy” if elected in 2020, and instead spend the money on bobbies on the beat.

A spokesman for the Mayor said money had been spent on violence reduction work, services to tackle violence against women and girls, as well as improving services for victims and witnesses.
