Kid Gibbs ’em a real fright

Gunners off hook as Wolves

to correct by switching to a formation after the break that got Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang further up alongside Alexandre Lacazette.

As it was, Lucas Torreira was the first to test Patricio, but not until the hour mark, with a

20-yard drive that led to a fingertip save.

If only Arsenal could channel as much energy into a comeback as Emery showed as he angrily prowled his technical area, gesticulating wildly.

Hector Bellerin fired wildly over the bar from Xhaka’s pullback with

19 minutes to go, then Aubameyang hit the outside of the post from six yards out with the goal gaping.

Increasingly it began to feel that Arsenal – with a reputation as comeback kings this season – were not going to get away with it this time.

Emery took off the hopelessly ineffectual Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac to put on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey in a final throw of the dice.

It was football’s equivalent of a double six.

With time ticking away, Wolves failed to land a sucker punch – Jimenez breaking from the halfway line to tee up Diogo Jota to produce yet another brilliant save from Leno.

Then Ramsey’s shot was blocked by Patricio. From the corner the Wales international fed Mkhitaryan, and his floated ball in evaded everybody before nestling in the Wolves net.

Five minutes of added time appeased nobody from Arsenal – fans and Emery alike.

In the end it was Arsenal who were grateful for the point when Leno again came to the rescue, this time from Adama Traore. Although, ultimately, the woodwork was the Gunners’ real hero.
