PORT VALE boss Neil Aspin was left fuming as his side crashed out of the FA Cup against Sunderland.

He was angry they didn’t get a 63rd-minute penalty when Luke Hannant fell under Jack Baldwin’s challenge, with referee Anthony Backhouse waving play on.

“You need those decisions to go for you,’’ said Aspin.

‘‘I spoke to the referee and he said he didn’t see it.

“It is a recurring theme for us at the moment. We’ve had a lot of games where we don’t get the decisions, then get apologies afterwards, which mean nothing.”

Even Black Cats boss Jack Ross admitted his League One side had been given the rub of the green over the incident.

“From pitchside I thought it was a decent claim,” said Ross. “On first shout I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had been given.”

Sunderland’s quest for their seventh straight victory got

CHORLEY boss Jamie Vermiglio had mixed feelings as the non-League side booked a place in the draw for the FA Cup second round.

The Magpies remain on course to make it past the first round for the first time in 28 years after coming agonisingly close to beating League One Doncaster.

The part-timers, who ended with 10 men after Matt Challoner was sent off on the hour, twice led at Victory Park before holding on to secure a replay.

Vermiglio (right) said: “The overriding emotion of being in the hat is one of excitement and optimism.

‘‘But overall I’ve got a horrible feeling in my off to a lightning start with a cool sidefoot finish from George Honeyman after only 35 seconds.

The 2,000 away fans were in delirium when USA international Lynden Gooch slotted home from a similar distance.

But the talismanic Tom Pope gave League Two Vale hope 10 minutes before the break with a cracking finish, for his eighth goal of the season, from substitute Manny Oyeleke’s excellent pass.

Twice Pope went close to a stomach, thinking that we could have held on.

“I’m feeling a little disappointed but overall I’m proud of the performance that the boys put in against a very good side.”

League North leveller, with Ben Whitfield also blasting a good chance past the outside of the post.

Ross added: “The first half an hour or so was maybe not what we quite expected, but we were still really good and dominant.

“It is not easy just to bang out wins. Even with the top teams it is not often they hammer out this number of consecutive victories.

“The players are enjoying it and are determined to keep it going for as long as they can.” Chorley in front inside two minutes, only for Liverpool loanee Herbie Kane to level. Courtney Meppen-Walter lashed Vermiglio’s side back ahead but Kane made it 2-2 with a superb curler after Challoner had seen red, before Rovers poured forward to try to find a winner. Donny boss Grant McCann said: “I thought Chorley’s goalkeeper was outstanding. I think I might have to find out what his contract details are.”
