WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

TOP sporting highlight on telly tonight? That’ll be tennis legend Roger Federer versus Bear Grylls.

Yep, as in the adventurer guy who drags people to the middle of nowhere and makes them eat, I don’t know, fishes’ testicles or something. That Bear Grylls.

It’s not the most conventional tennis match, I’ll admit. In fact, technically it’s table tennis. On a “table” barely bigger than this newspaper.

But to be fair, they’re way up in the Swiss Alps, filming RUNNING WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS (9pm, ITV), one of those shows where the hyper-keen outdoorsy fella gets a celeb to join him on some crackpot, face-yourfears challenge. Even Bear isn’t mad enough to lug a full-sized table up there.

The match, for the record, is mighty close. But obviously the show’s main aim is to reveal another side to its star guest. So Bear relishes the chance, during a break from the scary stuff, to hear about his companion’s outlook on life.

Roger explains how he’s always been happy to commit errors, so he can learn from them. And it turns out Bear feels the same.

My worry is that Roger is only talking about tennis. Whereas when Bear tells him: “I’ve learnt from a lifetime outdoors: you only grow from making mistakes,” – it’s coming from a guy who’s got him several hundred feet up a mountain. ELSEWHERE, in RICK KIDS GO SKINT (9pm, 5STAR), mega-wealthy Andrea spends time with jobless single dad David, his daughters – and their pets.

The thing is, Andrea doesn’t like pets. So guess whose first job is cleaning out the pongy rabbit hutch?
