Ed’s boys ready to bounce back after heartache

-

They need to pray, pray, pray. Go to the temple and pray. We’re going to be absolutely ruthless.

“If I’m fired up, how are they (his players) not going to be fired up? If they’re not fired up, they won’t be there. We’re taking it seriously.”

Crashed

England charged into a 15-0 lead inside 24 minutes.

Chris Ashton made his first start for four years and within two minutes he had slid over in the corner for the game’s opening try.

Dylan Hartley then crashed over with some help from most of his team-mates while Owen Farrell added a conversion and drop goal.

But the All Blacks are not world champions for nothing and Damien McKenzie crossed before half-time, with Beauden Barrett’s conversion and penalty reducing the deficit to 15-10.

Barrett’s drop goal and second penalty after the break proved the difference.

And England’s misery was complete five minutes from time when the video official ruled out Sam Underhill’s potential match-winning try, Courtney Lawes ruled as offside charging down a defensive kick.

One week earlier the video call had gone in England’s favour to see them beat South Africa.

Jones said: “We’re devastated but you take the good with the bad. We’ll learn a lot from this.

“We had chances to win. We didn’t take them and they did.”
