CAT OUT OF HELL
31 dead and 200 missing in blazes
THE death toll in the California wildfires has risen to 31 and more than 200 people are still missing.
About 250,000 people have been forced to flee their homes as flames tear through parched vegetation in the state.
But one amazing survivor was a cat found alive in the town of Paradise. The pet was last night being cared for by an animal welfare group.
The fire, 40 miles north of Sacramento, has burned down more than 6,700 homes and businesses in Paradise, more structures than any other recorded California wildfire.
It had scorched more than
111,000 acres and was 25% contained by late Sunday, officials said.
Loss
Paradise – which was last week home to 27,000 people – is now a ghost town.
The inferno has engulfed the multimillion-pound homes of Hollywood A-listers.
Singer Miley Cyrus is the latest high-profile victim.
The Wrecking Ball star took to social media to tell fans she was “completely devastated” by her loss.
She wrote: “I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and love of my life made it out safely and that’s all that matters right now.
“My house no longer stands, but the memories shared with family and friends stand strong. I am grateful for all I have left. Sending so much love and gratitude to the fire- fighters and LA country (sic) Sheriff ’s department!”
Pop stars Neil Young and Robin Thicke and Hollywood actor Gerard Butler have also had their homes destroyed.
And the outdoors set of telly show Westworld has also been devoured by the flames.
HBO, which produces the show, expressed concern for “all those affected by these horrible fires”.
Kim Kardashian dedicated a telly award to the firefighters.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians won Best Reality Show at the 2018 People’s Choice Awards in Santa Monica on Sunday.
Kim handed her win to the firefighters.
“We would like to dedicate this win to all of the firefighters, police officers and first responders,” the 38-year-old said, surrounded by sisters Kourtney, Khloe and Kendall, and mum Kris Jenner.
