HARRY Hill’s wife has hit back at claims his charity event with a line-up of only white comedians is racist.
Magda Archer said “people of colour” had been asked to take part in the show, but had declined the invitation.
Stand-up comedian Lolly Adefope, 28, had pointed out all 23 comedians in the show are white.
And she tweeted: “Someone’s dreaming of a white Christmas.”
Other critics called the line-up “shocking” and “disgusting”.
Magda said her husband had done everything he could to get a diverse bunch of comics on the bill.
She said: “The fact is that he asked people of colour who could not do it.
“In fact, one person had to drop out.
“When they say no, what is he going to do?”
Magda added that Harry
“has had a lot of apologies from people who stoked it up – he was organising it for charity”.
She went on: “There are people at a loose end who spent a little bit of time mucking about on Twitter.
“It started off as a bit of a laugh and I think they have come to realise that they have created something that is totally untrue and unfair actually.” Jimmy Carr, John Bishop, Matt Lucas, Rob Brydon and Jo Brand are just some of the stars set to appear in the fundraiser for muscular dystrophy charity Action Duchenne.
Comedians Sing The Christmas Hits will be held on December 4 at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre.
