Daniel wants Moore

BARN-STORMING: Moore secures the three points BARNSLEY boss Daniel Stendel is demanding Moore from his No.1 striker in the battle for promotion to the Championship.

Kieffer Moore, at 6ft 5in, has answered the club’s tall order for goals with 10 this season as the Tyke’s top hitman.

But Stendel is not totally satisfied by Moore’s exploits despite him laying on the first goal for Cauley Woodrow and securing the points with his late second.

Stendel, whose side battled for half an hour without sent-off defender Zeki Fryers, said: “Yes, Kieffer is a very good player for us. He scored a crucial goal.

“But I think he can play better than that. For us, he fights in every game and is a very important player. He is playing a vital role as we chase promotion.”

Heroic

Stendel revealed that keeper Jordan Smith, on an emergency one-week loan from Nottingham Forest, received a standing ovation in the dressing room for his heroic display.

Smith twice saved from former Barnsley winger Jordan Clark in front of Accrington’s record-busting 4,801 crowd.

Clark, who spent 15 years at Oakwell before joining Shrewsbury in 2014, jumped into the crowd the last time he scored the winner against his former team.

He would loved to have repeated that but his early attempt on goal was brilliantly saved by stand-in stopper Smith.

Clark said: “I am a big Barnsley fan but it’s one of those things. You can’t control your emotions at the time.

“I was playing for Shrewsbury and I scored a last-minute winner. I jumped into the crowd but I did feel bad afterwards.

“But if I had scored the winner against Barnsley I don’t think I would have been able to climb over the railings here at Accrington.

“It hurt when I got released from Barnsley. But you have to pick yourself up and go again – and I did.”
