Agard’s a whizz with Tis

- 2 0

HOT STUFF: Agard KIERAN AGARD made it four goals in four games then credited Dons boss Paul Tisdale for turning him back into a scoring machine.

The forward went past last season’s eight-goal tally against Macclesfield and puts his fizz down to Tis.

Record buy Agard and sidekick Chuks Aneke are both benefiting from a fresh voice as the League Two leaders bid to bounce straight back up after relegation.

Aneke grabbed his 10th to equal his total for last season, scoring the first against bottom side Macclesfield in the 52nd minute.

Agard said: “He’s (Tisdale) played a massive part.

“I’ve been working on trying to get in on the shoulder a bit more and it paid off.”

Agard’s goal was his final touch of the afternoon as Tisdale displayed his ruthless side by subbing him. Aneke followed him not long after.

“I wasn’t aware I was about to be subbed,” added Agard. “The goal was good timing.

Doldrums

“I’m thankful this year I’m scoring a lot more and playing consistently. I am always confident I can score.”

The Dons were in the doldrums last season and the goals dried up for Agard too.

Tisdale has used his vast experience from his Exeter days to give everything a good shake-up.

He admitted that he was preparing to replace Agard seconds before he beat the offside trap, ran on to Alex Gilbey’s through ball, and beat Kieran O’Hara in the 65th minute.

Tisdale said: “I don’t make my decisions based on goals but on the flow of the game, tactics, fatigue.”

The Dons were competent while Macclesfield gave it a decent go without ever really suggesting they could record a first away win this season.

Interim player-manager Danny Whitaker said: “We need more quality in all areas but if we can strengthen in January, we are in a league where anybody can beat anybody.

“It is not too late and I’m sure we can do enough to stay in the league.”
