WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

TELL me, are you one of those people who’ll be flatly refusing to tune in each night to I’M A CELEBRITY…GET ME OUT OF HERE! (9pm, ITV)?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely fine if you are. I’m just curious as to why. Is it because you think the show has finally run out of steam?

Is it because you don’t rate this year’s line-up? Is because you’re Anthony McPartlin?

Whatever the reason, I consider it my duty to find you something good to plug that void in your life, telly-wise. A task which actually turns out to be something of a doddle, at least for a few nights, thanks to the clever people at Channel 5.

Stripped across the whole of this week in their 9pm slot, in place of whatever the hell normally goes out on Channel 5 at 9pm on a weekday evening (I think it’s normally something about trains, or having your furniture confiscated), they’re showing an excellent psychological thriller called BLOOD.

Set in Ireland, it stars Line Of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar as respected local doctor Jim something-or-other, whose wife has just suffered a fatal accident. I say “accident” – the point of the story is that one of his daughters, Cat (Carolina Main), who rushes back from Dublin having heard the news, becomes convinced he did her in. Since he’s clearly quite a nasty piece of work, and since Cat is also haunted by something terrible she swears she saw him do when she was a kid, it’s hard not to share her suspicions. Unfortunately, Jim has also spent years convincing others, most notably her vile sister, that Cat is off her rocker.
