BLACK FRIDAY MAYHEM:

- By OLIVER PRITCHARD oliver.pritchard@dailystar.co.uk

SHOPPERS were shelling out nearly £1,000 for stuffed carrot toys worth less than £20 yesterday.

Hundreds queued outside Aldi stores across the country from 6.30am to get their hands on a Kevin the Carrot.

The toys sold out within hours, prompting some savvy Brits to put them up on eBay at over-thetop prices.

A 5ft-tall giant Kevin, the star of the shop’s Christmas advert which normally sells for £19.99, was going for £950 on the auction site last night.

The store chain introduced a limit of two toys per customer last year due to demand.

But that did not prevent the various Kevin toys, the cheapest of which costs £2.99, selling out both in store and online. So many

CARROT TOP: £950 on eBay people flocked to the store’s website after midnight that it developed problems before it was announced all eight Kevin the Carrot products had sold out.

Pictures of the long queues and rush once doors opened were uploaded online. An Aldi spokesman said: “Demand for our Kevin the Carrot toys has been exceptionally high.

“To avoid any disappointment, this year we increased the range by adding new characters such as evil Pascal the Parsnip, as well as the amount of soft toys available in each store.

“We also limited purchases to two per customer. These are only available while stocks last.”

As well as Kevin the Carrot in three different sizes, the range also includes his wife Katie and their offspring Jasper, Chantenay and a baby.
