Morgan’s plea to refs

-

LEICESTER captain Wes Morgan wants referees to sit down with his team and explain exactly what is a yellow card offence.

Morgan’s appeal came after James Maddison became the fourth Leicester player to see red this season when he was dismissed for two yellow cards in the first half at the Amex.

Leicester, who were already trailing Brighton to a Glenn Murray goal at that stage, fought back bravely to draw with 10 men thanks to a Jamie Vardy penalty. But even though Maddison’s bookings – one for a professional foul and one for a dive – looked pretty clear, Morgan is frustrated.

He said: “Four red cards is too much and we need to learn, but also referees need to tell us what a yellow card is these days.

“There seem to be a lot of yellows getting dished out for minimal things.

“Maybe we need to have a sit down with referees to find out exactly what would be a yellow card and what wouldn’t be.

“Players – and I think this would go for every team in the league – are getting booked for things that wouldn’t have been a booking in past years.

“I’ve had cards this season which I felt weren’t deserved. I’ve won the ball clearly and got a yellow, so I don’t know where we stand.”

In fairness to referee Chris Kavanagh, Maddison’s dismissal after only 28 minutes wasn’t that controversial.

He blatantly hacked down Anthony Knockaert and then tried to con his way to a penalty under challenge from Shane Duffy, apologising later on social media.

The decision didn’t prevent Leicester making a fine comeback, inspired by substitute Vardy.

“We showed our spirit and we dug deep and got an equaliser,” said Morgan.

“Jamie Vardy is always going to have an impact when he comes on.

“It’s clear for everyone to see that we are willing to battle and fight and scrap, even with 10 men.”
