Eddie keeps his new star’s feet on ground

EDDIE JONES has told new England sensation Joe Cokanasiga to forget about comparisons with Jonah Lomu.

Cokanasiga, 21, has been one of the breakout stars of the autumn Tests. The giant winger marked last week’s debut against Japan with a try and notched another to help England thrash Australia at Twickenham.

His size, speed and powerhouse running destroyed the Aussies from start to finish and have seen him likened to the late and great New Zealand legend Lomu.

Jones admits the Bath ace has “something special”, but reckons it is far too soon for the Fijian-born star to be mentioned in the same breath as one of the greatest of all time.

Jones said: “He has the X-factor. It’s probably the first time we’ve had a back line that’s as big as Australia’s – and that made a difference.

“I’m excited by his potential. But the big thing now is how hard he works on his game. I tell you what Lomu did. He nearly won a World Cup for New Zealand (on his own in 1995).

“When Joe nearly wins a World Cup for us, he won’t be good enough, because he has to win a World Cup for us. Then you can start talking about comparing him to Lomu.”

England produced a strong second half to brush aside the Aussies and record their sixth straight Test win over Michael Cheika’s men.

The writing was on the wall when Jonny May crashed over inside three minutes. Owen Farrell added a conversion and two penalties but the visitors levelled with a sensational converted try from Israel Folau and two Matt Toomua penalties.

But a mediocre Aussie side were no match for the hosts after the break, with Elliot Daly, Cokanasiga and Farrell all crossing and Farrell adding nine more points with the boot to render Folau’s late try nothing more than a consolation.
