Poch is keen to help Alli

“We want to give him a really strong base and foundation to go on to have a really good career in football.

“But it is never easy for a young guy to be consistent when so many things happen – and many things have happened to him because he is so young.

“That said, he is such a talented player and has amazing character – although sometimes he has done badly for himself.

“He’s still so young and he needs to control that character and we’re here to help him.”

Slow

Alli set Tottenham on their way to victory on Saturday with a goal in the eighth minute – his first in the Premier League since the opening day of the season.

“I feel like it’s been a bit of a slow season for me so far,” he admitted afterwards.

“I’ve been playing well when I’ve played but I picked up some injuries, which is disappointing.

“I’ve been working hard on the training field and in the gym and my role has changed a little bit.

“I’m playing a little bit deeper, I’m not always thinking about scoring goals or assisting.

“As long as we get the three points and I’m helping the team, whether it be scoring, assisting or defensively, I’m happy.”
