KNOCKERS IN A FLAP OVER BAPS

Café with cheeky name in peril

- by ALEXANDER BROWN

SENSITIVE snowflakes tried to close a popular café called Nice Baps because they objected to its light-hearted name.

The eatery came under threat despite having thousands of happy customers including former PM David Cameron and the cast of TV’s Poldark.

SNOWFLAKES tried to close a family café called Nice Baps because they did not like its saucy name.

Two local councillors are said to have complained it was offensive.

Worried owners Kevin Baker and his wife Laura faced losing their licence – despite having more than 1,000 outstanding TripAdvisor reviews.

The café in Wadebridge, Cornwall, has welcomed former Prime Minister David Cameron and the cast of Poldark.

Kevin, 54, said: “After all the work that Laura and I have done for the local community and raising over £15,361 towards helping house Cornwall’s homeless, it’s tearing us apart knowing that a council committee could possibly close us down.”

The couple were set for a showdown with Cornwall County Council but, after pressure from local supporters, the complaints were dropped last night. Dad-of-two Kevin said: “It just seems very petty and narrow minded. I mean a bap is a just a bun – what’s the problem? I would just thank everybody for the support we’ve had. And we can carry on – until the next time.”

The council said: “Both representations received in relation to the application for street trading consent for Nice Baps have today been withdrawn.”
