NHS GOES MAC TO THE FUTURE
Chiefs told fries chain is a model
THE NHS could soon be modelling itself on McDonald’s despite the nation’s obesity crisis.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock yesterday praised the fast food chain and claimed health chiefs could learn from its training programmes.
The Tory Cabinet minister also accused the NHS of not having “enough leaders”.
He said: “They start leadership at shift manager level, they drive leadership training through every level of their company.
Burgers
“Restaurant managers learn how to develop a culture of continuous improvement, how to hold their teams and themselves accountable, and how to apply best practice for their outlet.
“All that training, all that development, just to sell burgers.
“Can we honestly say we place as much time and effort and importance on identifying and supporting leaders?
“That we value it? Surely a lifesaving business requires as much emphasis on leadership as the fast food business.”
Mr Hancock also called for more diversity as figures revealed just 7% of NHS board members are black or minority ethnic.
His comments came as McDonald’s was revealed to have faeces on its order touchscreens.
Samples taken at eight stores across London and Birmingham were all contaminated.
